Welcome to the
Decatur Quilt Guild

The Decatur Quilt Guild is a not-for-profit organization, which strives to spread the art of quilting to all who are interested. Members do many charity projects, such as making quilt for wounded soldiers returning from war, quilts for Project Linus, as well as charity quilts which are given to a non-profit organization to help them in their fund-raising efforts. The Decatur Quilt Guild also provides mini-quilt shows to area nursing homes and is also a participant in the National Quilt Day.

The longer members are involved with this organization, the more they become aware of the comfort that quilts bring to those who need comforting. It is the Members' hope that they make their situation a little more tolerable.

Cost per quilt is $45.00, payable to Ms. Schweitzer. Contact Dorothy Sebok, 217-429-7754, for an appointment.

Stockings for Operation Santa

On August 24, 2009, members present at the night guild meeting made stockings for the Operation Santa organization, whose goal is to make 35,000 stockings for our military members overseas. Our goal was to make 100 stockings this evening, but we far exceeded this goal by doubling our number to 200 stockings completed! This was a fun and productive evening where members were sewing/serging, cutting, turning stockings right sides out, and pressing. We bagged the stockings in sets of 50. We also collected items to include in the stockings. We have until the 2nd meeting in October to make additional stockings and collect items to fill them. Our goal is an additional 100 stockings by October. If you want to contribute you can visit Operation Santa for directions to make the stockings.

Making Stockings for Operation Santa

If you want to donate items to put in the stockings, Operation Santa requests the following:

Operation Santa requests no soap, chocolate, tea, glass, aerosol, full size products, or peanut butter products.

Thank you to Luise Olgesby for bringing this project to our attention!

Hunter's Star Class

The Decatur Quilt Guild was pleased to have Lynne Mears from the Cotton Patch in Woodlawn, IL, visit us in August to teach the Hunter's Star class. Members were able to learn a new way to piece this beautiful star using a new Hunter's Star ruler and strip piecing. For more pictures from this class, visit our Photo Gallery.
